Miami International airport is 40 minutes from the Keys |
Flying is the quickest, easiest way to get to the Keys without the potential
hassle of the two-lane tourist tangled Overseas Highway.
Commercial flights touch down at the Florida Keys Marathon Airport (MTH) at
MM 52. Flights run frequently to and from Fort Lauderdale. Flights are also
available into the Key West International Airport (EYW). Most major airlines
fly into Miami International Airport (MIA), which is 165 miles from Key West,
and about 60 miles to the northern island of Key Largo. Another option is the
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which is an additional
25 miles or so north of MIA. National car rental agencies operate out of both
airports.
Tickets can be purchased online for all the companies flying into the Keys,
but as names change frequently in the airline business, it’s best to contact
the airports for their current operator. Tickets to MIA and FLL can easily be
found through online discount ticketing websites.
Private aircraft may land at both the Marathon and Key West airports, where
reasonably priced tie-down spots and refueling are available. Contact the Key
West airport at 305-296-5439, or the Marathon airport at 305-289-6060 for the
most current information.
